Alright f4celess, i'll see what i can make out of it. I will post anything that is in work too. For starters here are a few trees and plants:

But i really like the plants, and the tree looks pretty good too. Guess i'll try to create all of them later on. Sorry if i will be slow this week, lots of exams.

http://0o2471.net/34542 - a howering flower thingy. if the roots are cut it will float upwards like a balloon, and if it hits the sky there's a chance it will change the weather (assuming we can do dynamic weather).

looking forward to what you can make of them BonyG. if you want to, you can add me on Skype, f4celessshopps is the name.

i like the idea of changeing the weather thanks to the flower. I think we can do that, the engine can switch between weather pretty easily. The question is do the designers approve of this :D

We'll make a list about good ideas, that will be implemented later on.

I like the taste of the flora you create there :)

i won't approve of changing the weather in just an optical way, but if this effects the gamplay as well, i'd think about that.

Something we should talk about is the "Sunlights' spread in colorspectrum" wich would effect the color of the flowers living on our planet-to-be. For example: the plants on earth are mostly green because they primarily absorb  blue and red light as our sun does not provide enough green light to make a photosynthesis  efficient with.

If the given sun wouldn't provide enough blue lights, this would color our plants kinda blue :D

Awesome with science. I'll keep that in mind. like add a blueish hue to the flora. players will be more familiar with green, so I will keep them somewhat green,

We shouldn't take the science part too far tho. it's a fantasy game after all.

Coordinator

well retexturing isnt that hard, but we could also use photoshop to alter some of the colors, so this shouldnt be a problem. but i must tell you i like a blue fantasy enviroment :D

"the science part" is just an impulse i wanted to give you on developing the feeling of the environment :) nothing i would tell to players anyways.

but i think the more background we have on "natural" things in our "universe" the more we will succeed in creating an immersive game :)

Some kind of a tree:

must be a strange website. the url part would be the image url, that you can find if you right click the picture you want to show.

the code for this was: <img src="http://u.jimdo.com/www20/o/sb323087f6bd8a4db/img/i79fe7184a09dae8c/1324232514/std/image.jpg"/img>

You could create some really simple plants for first. Just imagine the vegetation only with very complex plants...

Some kind of grass, moss, vines, etc... If we have the basics, we can create more complex things.

If you have more time, you could draw a whole environment piece, where all type of plants can be found.

Editor
Dec 18, 2011 at 6:10 PM

@ F4celess Thanks :D

@ Darres Yeah you're right, but I had these two ideas and I wanted to draw them before i forget them^^ I think we would need a map and a plan for the first enviroment then designing stuff would be easier..

Coordinator
Dec 18, 2011 at 7:19 PM

You need the plants for a map, cant make it all the way around! :D The first thing we'd need is a whole concept art about a part of that map.

Editor
Dec 18, 2011 at 7:22 PM

missunderstanding :D I mean a painted map to know where what is, for example a village, so we can design the things for this village :D

Editor
Dec 18, 2011 at 9:13 PM

Full size here

I made this map as a base. No need to overdetail the whole map, since we dunno how much land we will meed. I dont think we will, or should use the whole thing. especially not for a indiegame (so much work). but we have a bit to select from here. Realistically we could use 1, maybe 2 continents and a few islands.

If you decide on what parts on the map we will use I could start filling in towns and whatnot. or someone else could do it.

Coordinator
Dec 19, 2011 at 8:56 AM

Thanks for the map! :)

Maybe somewhat less water will be better, because how shall the players cross this much water?

I also dont know why it is necessary to know the position of the village in order to make a concept art or bulidings for it...

Editor
Dec 19, 2011 at 10:52 AM

the water makes the world more believable. and they work as progression blockers. And a civilization capable of making swords and villages must surely be able to produce a boat or two.

And in the scale I intended for this all of this land would be huge. Compared to Skyrim it would be 2-3 times bigger.

Coordinator
Dec 19, 2011 at 10:58 AM

Player can get across the water via bridges or swimming maybe? If you try to swim out into the ocean you die. Simple as that :D Cry Engine bestowed a great looking water upon us, we shall use it! Or dont, i dont really care, but its given, so we might as well use it.

And for the location of the cities - i imagine a totally different style for a desert and for a snowy living enviroment. But yeah, looking at the map it means concept artist need to construct a desert - snowy - forest types of concepts.

And also let me say nice job guys, havent seen this many drawings in months you done in a week, so keep up the good work!

Also if any of you have the free time, we need a huge ass tree in the test level that is already work in progress, it is in the middle, and so far we used a built in tree, and i think thats uncool. So let you fantasies run wild and draw something that is worth being in the middle of everything. ;)

Editor
Dec 19, 2011 at 11:26 AM

I'm sure I can do the variety of buildings from snowy areas to desert dunes. most openworld RPGs have deserts, forests, grasslands and arctic.

How much we will have to produce is up to how much land we want to create in 3d, put detail and content into.

I'll try to design a huge ancient tree or something. are we talking sizes so large that it can house a small village, or just large compared to other trees?

Yeah, I can do it too, the only problem is the amount of work :D I think it would be better if we start by making the first area and quests until they are almost finished and then we could start adding other areas... BTW, I like snow/arctic enviroment^^

Coordinator
Dec 19, 2011 at 2:56 PM

In the test level we are only talking about a huge ass tree in the middle of the test map, in an island that is only used as the base of the tree. But i like the idea, that there are houses on it, and stars and stuff. Keep in mind this is only the test level i and balee are working on. Not the final game. So feel free to make ideas to the final product, we just need a couple of stuff on the test level. Which is accidentally pretty huge. :D

Coordinator
Dec 19, 2011 at 5:43 PM

You wont want to make a huge map. You'll add the details later!!! It's much better to have a small but detailed map.

F4celess: OMG you cant outmatch Skyrim. Please dont even try, or we fail. Scope alert!!! :D

I never said we should try to make a better game than bethesda (even tho we could avoid the amount of glitches). I simply draw inspiration and ideas from them.

I made the map that big so we would have some to chose from. I never thought we could do the whole thing...

Desert city

Just some things that could be in a desert enviroment city. Mostly tents and huts, boxes with stuff (a desert city usually trades, because it cant grow food and vegetables)

And here are two plants (the second is kinda looks like what f4celess already draw, but this one is a bug eater)

i ment these images that people are uploading.... otherwise great art can be wiped out just like that :( i just want to make sure that we dont lose any art work. maybe i could save them onto my external HD? up to you darrel... but to get back on topic...

the witch house is amazing... but it just doesn't seem witchy (not sure if that is a word)... make it a bit darker on the outside and maybe have some dead plants in the front garden also if you can add some gloom to the background :)

sorry if im bombarding you with things to do.. just trying to get the best out of all of us :)

@Ammonium:

You seem to forget that each of us got the individual artworks stored on our own computers, I store everything I make on a external Harddrive and the internal drive, so with the online websites it's stored three times. A collective storage could be as simple as a shared Dropbox folder.

thanks for the offer tho, but it's a bit unnecessary at this stage.

I agree partially on the witch house, should look more evil and gloomy, the witch might be really nice, but that's how witches and their stuff are "supposed" to look.

I'm curious about the other website/forum Darress made tho, how is that coming along? (respond in appropriate thread)

yeah ok... as you said... i store mine on a external HD witch then means its safe... but some others might not... and if they store it on their own individual computers (where their is no back up) their computer might need to be restored (or breaks or whatever reason) and then we will loose all their artwork.. so im just saying if we have website just for the photo uploads (where you can manually upload them yourself) we will still have them safe if they do have to restore their computer :) ON-TOPIC: @bonyg i like it... dont get the black lines in the middle of the village town derset thing :D

Go ahead with it, I like :D Just wondering, maybe it would be better to make a few different houses separately and not the whole city in one model, so we could make more cities with some of the same models^^

@Ammonium

I'm not sure, but Darress makes a website for the game, maybe we could upload the concepts there, but I think it's not really necessary, I have 4 backups of my artworks which I update about every week...

So, to all of our concept artists! We are about to create a smaller test level, which is going to be a small sized, but good looking map. I was thinking of a forest scene, where a fight could happen. So what i need you to do, is to draw a complete forest concept, with a lot of detail, if possible. The main goal is to create a scene, which looks really nice, and your job isnt just to draw a tree or a nice flower, the more important thing is to create an enviroment, where the whole thing looks cool. So its fine with me if you dont draw the same tree over and over again, if once you drawn it nicely. The idea is for me to have a picture with lots of possible models, so i can create models for the test level in huge numbers, not just one or two from a tree concept. So if you can, you must draw a lot of type of flowers, trees, bushes, and so on. Quantity of different type is now a priority. Thanks in advance. :)

Editor
Jan 27, 2012 at 12:27 PM

I'll try it when I find the time for it..maybe on the weekend...we should make a thread for all finished 3d models, so we have an overview of all plants, trees and so on...

Still not useless. first off it helps you guys with setting the mood for forest scenes. And it's important training for me and my art.

I got some good ideas for housing that I will build into the overall level design, and add some technical drawings. Stand by, I have no clue when it's done because of the 2 other pictures I'm concentrating on.
